The Story of the Clover

Its no secret that Scott is a big fan of Glasgow Celtic and has worn the clubs famous four leaf clover on his shorts throughout his amateur and professional career, however since Scott turned pro, you may have noticed a newly designed clover logo, this is called the Cardle Clover, the design features 4 hearts, this signifies the close bond between Scott, his Mother Irene, Father Joe and footballing Brother Jojo The reason for one of the hearts being coloured differently is to portray the significance of his Mother Irene.

On the 5th January, 2011, Irene suffered a severe stroke, so severe that the family almost lost her, however after a lengthy period in hospital, and a rehabilitation regime that she continues to this day, Irene has made a remarkable recovery, although still paralysed, she instils inspiration and strength to all who know her.

This tragedy happened at a very crucial period in Scott’s career, he was in vital and crucial period of training with Team GB for the Olympic qualifying tournaments, both brothers were devastated and spoke of taking a break from their respective careers to assist their Father with caring for their Mum, however Joe sat them down and explained that he was going to give up his career to look after Irene and the most positive thing that both brothers could do was to continue their careers and make sure they gave her plenty of positive feedback which would only help her thrive and stay strong.

Thankfully this is what’s happened and Irene continues to defy the neurologists by continuing her daily routines in the gym and in neurophysio.

If you ask Scott, who is his hero or who has given him the inspiration to succeed, he will always be quick to answer, ‘My Mum’ and this strength and resilience will carry him and his Family to where they deserve to be.
